More performance and more driving pleasure, but above all safe and backed by expert approval: that is what the TUNE IT! SAFE! campaign car stands for. Under the patronage of the Federal Ministry for Digital and Transport and the police, the nationwide campaign promotes safe tuning and shows what is possible within the road approval rules. It is funded exclusively by sponsors. Once again AC Schnitzer played a leading role, this time with the BMW M2.
AC Schnitzer raised the output of the engine from 338 kW (460 hp) and 550 Nm to a durable 412 kW (560 hp) and 650 Nm. Matching engine cosmetics hint at the extra power as soon as the bonnet opens. The AC Schnitzer silencer with flap control and two Carbon Sport tailpipes on each side improves exhaust flow and gives the M2 a distinctive, sonorous sound.
The AC Schnitzer RS coilover suspension, developed and tuned by AC Schnitzer engineers specifically for the M2, takes driving dynamics to a new level. It is continuously height adjustable, adjustable in rebound and compression, and lowers the car by about 25 to 35 mm. It was tested on the Nürburgring Nordschleife and on public roads. AC4 lightweight forged wheels in TechGold, 10.0J x 20 inch front and 10.0J x 21 inch rear, cut unsprung mass and wear Hankook Ventus S1 evo 3 tyres.
The aero package is designed for downforce. The front splitter alone generates 60 kg of extra downforce and is combined with front side wings, a front grille, a six-piece design package and side skirts. At the rear, the roof spoiler and the carbon Racing rear wing with Gurney flap add a further 80 kg in combination, keeping the tail firmly planted. The rear diffuser frames the tailpipes, and decals on the bonnet complete the look.
Inside, AC Schnitzer aluminium paddle shifters, noticeably larger than the standard ones, are a sensible upgrade. Aluminium pedals and footrest, a keyholder and an aluminium iDrive controller cover add the finishing touch. Road approval is a central goal in the development of every AC Schnitzer component, and all parts on the police M2 have been tested accordingly: within every road approval rule, yet far beyond standard.
